Pregnancy superstitious

Overview

As pregnant women, I’m sure you have heard of superstitious and old wise tales that are sometimes rather confusing or interesting. Sometimes it tends to be so odd that people don’t follow. Well it all depends on the individual themselves, if they develop an interest and believe in the statement they might follow but there are some that probably they might find not believable then they might not follow. Each religion or culture follows a certain superstition that they would follow. However there are a list of general superstitions that all follow. Let’s look through it.

Common superstitions

  1. Don’t announce pregnancy

Old people usually believe in the power of not announcing pregnancy to everyone. They would ask the couple involved to only let know to their close family members and relatives to begin with. They would once and for all restrict telling people around as they fear the pregnancy to be jinxed and that people will cast evil eyes on the mom and also the baby. This tradition is particularly followed by those in Bulgaria, they tend to keep their pregnancy a secret as long as possible. I know doing a gender reveal might be just the great thing to do but not everyone you know are and will be happy for you.

  1. Avoiding ocean, river and lake

The main reason why elderlies would try to prohibit their daughters or daughter in law from going to rivers or lakes is for safety purposes. They fear that the pregnant lady might trip or so. But according to the Hmong culture, it is to be said that all types of evil and jealous forces are to be found in water in a big surface area like the river and lake. It is believed that they will try to steal the spirit of the unborn baby.

  1. Wait until childbirth to open the gift

While people love to host baby showers and other parties welcoming the unborn, pregnant mothers tend to receive a lot of gifts that are needed for the babies like baby products and mother care products malaysia. It is said that opening gifts for the unborn is considered bad luck for the baby as it invites evil eyes and is believed to cause chaos in the marital life. It can result misfortune or even miscarriage

  1. Avoid attending funerals

While you are in the process of welcoming a new life it is kind of not good to involve yourself in events that involve giving a farewell to the ones who have passed. Descended from jewish culture believe that the departed soul has the tendency to linger close to the unborn child and might create a bond within them. They are often warned to not attend or involve themselves in rituals involving funerals or the deaths.

Conclusion

We are growing and evolving, sometimes we don’t feel the need to follow exactly what is being said and what is being taught by the elderlies in our house. For the parts that you are able to follow, carry on and follow but for the parts that you don’t feel the need to follow or feel like it is absolutely absurd, you could just skip and do what makes you happy. Remember, by the end of the day it’s your happiness that matters.
